Long live the Italian people's strike for Palestine!

The Marx International

On September 22, 2025, thousands of people joined a general strike in Italy in support of the Palestinian people's struggle. In one of the largest mobilizations in recent history, hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets across Italy in response to a call for a 24-hour general strike called by the Union of Base Unions (USB), which brings together public and private sector unions. USB, along with other organizations such as Cub, Adl, and Sgb, called the general strike in support of the Palestinian people under the slogan "Let's blockade everything with Palestine in our hearts ." Mass demonstrations spread to more than eighty cities across the country.

This protest is part of the 3rd global Intifada, a worldwide revolutionary process of mobilization in support of the struggle of the Palestinian people, led by the struggle of the armed militias in Gaza and the West Bank, alongside the global mobilization taking place on 5 continents, which last week saw key events such as the huge mass mobilizations in Spain when thousands of people took to the streets of several cities to interrupt the Vuelta Ciclista (Cycling Tour) in rejection of the participation of an Israeli team.

In Rome, the country's capital, approximately 100,000 people marched from Piazza dei Cinquecento to Porta Maggiore, leading to the capital's main ring road. The strike disrupted public transportation, schools, and ports. In the capital, protesters blocked Termini Station, Italy's main station, while in Milan and Bologna, violent clashes with police broke out. Across the country, roads were blocked, ports were occupied, and universities were stormed by students. Similar scenes occurred in Bologna and Pisa, where students and workers paralyzed traffic, and in Genoa, Livorno, and Marghera, where protesters blocked ports.

The Italian people have a long tradition of solidarity with Palestine, reflected in massive campaigns and demonstrations, with solidarity initiatives that for decades have given the Italian people a distinctive role within the European Union (EU). The general strike held on September 22nd, in addition to resuming this tradition, now gives it a prominent place within the array of mobilizations that the people of Europe have been carrying out, such as the slogans chanted at music festivals in England, such as "Death to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF)," or the demonstrations in Spain.

We reject the UN plan for Palestine

The presidents of Great Britain, France, Spain, and other European countries have announced their support for a Palestinian state. This statement is part of the UN's plan for July 30, 2025, when the High-Level Conference for the Two-State Solution issued the so-called "New York Declaration," in which it proposes a "peace" plan for occupied Palestine based on the effective implementation of the "two-state" solution, that is, the creation of a Palestinian state alongside the State of Israel .

The declaration demands the "unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance" to Gaza and condemns the attacks committed by Hamas, equating the oppressive Nazi state of Israel with the Palestinian militias fighting for national liberation. The proposal also includes that Palestinian militias must lay down their weapons and cease all armed resistance, a plan supported by the Arab capitalist ruling classes of the Middle East, who propose that the future "Palestinian state" will end up being governed by the Palestinian Authority, a group of Palestinian officials collaborating with Israel.

The "two-state" proposal is European imperialism's response to the pressure of the Third Intifada, which saw the rise of mobilizations across Europe in support of Palestine. Under this proposal, European imperialism is attempting to pressure the Israeli government of Netanyahu to impose negotiations to stop the Third Intifada. This policy is destined to fail because it runs counter to the demands of the Palestinian people and the world: a "Free Palestine from the River to the Sea ," that is, the end of the State of Israel.

These sectors of European imperialism and the UN seek to place the Palestinian question within the purview of a "humanitarian" and "pacifist" policy, limiting it to a "benevolent" and "compassionate" character regarding the suffering of the people, with the goal of getting the Palestinian people to "accept" Israel's existence. This pressure is accompanied by the promotion of initiatives such as the Sumud Flotilla, promoted by sectors of European imperialism and the UN, but these policies are not without crises: The Italian newspaper Il Manifesto published that Greta Thunberg had resigned from the leadership of the Sumud Flotilla due to internal disagreements, accompanied by the resignation of journalist Yusuf Omar, who also abandoned the voyage, which shows symptoms of a political crisis in the humanitarian flotilla to Gaza. It is necessary to reaffirm that we are in favor of the triumph of the Palestinian militias with the goal of achieving a free Palestine from river to sea, democratic, secular, and non-racist.

For the triumph of the Palestinian militias and the Intifada

The Israeli government of Netanyahu has rejected the UN-proposed plan, saying it favors Hamas. Obviously, a Nazi state created by the UN in 1945 as an imperialist enclave in the region cannot speak of any peace, because it is designed to massacre, repress, and torture everything Arab in the Middle East. The only true " peace" possible is the end of the state of Israel, a Nazi enclave that has already perpetrated all kinds of genocide and is now carrying out the murder of thousands of Palestinians, seeking to put an end to the Intifada.

From the Marx International, we salute the general strike of the Italian people and all the mobilizations that are part of the Third Global Intifada in Europe and around the world. While the State of Israel grows weaker every day, with 80,000 dead in its army, facing an economic, political, and social crisis with thousands of exiles, and becoming a global pariah due to the rejection it receives from peoples around the world, the Palestinian flag flies proudly in the hands of the peoples who confront imperialist capitalism, among the achievements of the Third Intifada as part of the struggle for global socialism.
